Anything that’s human is mentionable, and everything mentionable is more manageable.
This is a place to quietly write about what is going on in the world, preferably pseudonymously. It is also a place to talk about the tools being built to help the next generation make sense of the mess they’ve been left with.
The present mess:
You need a massive energy surplus to have modern conveniences, and “the EROI of our most important fuels is declining and most renewable and non-conventional energy alternatives have substantially lower EROI values than traditional conventional fossil fuels.” Fuel prices are just going to keep going up year-to-date, along with everything that depends on them. In short, we’ve been using Earth’s cheap energy sources to ‘develop’ ourselves, we’re almost out of cheaply extractable petroleum, and renewables alone are too expensive per kilowatt-hour.
A global pandemic that is still not over, that we weren’t ready for, and we’re not ready for the next one.
Political polarization making meaningful consensus difficult to achieve, making it difficult for nation-states to enact complex or controversial policies.
Oh, and climate change, which makes everything even harder to deal with.
The future holds:
More Workers Self Directed Enterprises perhaps?
Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, and other fun crypto things that hopefully won’t contribute too much to climate change or destabilize global financial markets.
Open Source Ecology is developing a system of open source industrial machines: the Global Village Construction Set. Useful if you need to build modern industry from scratch.
CollapseOS is a project for preserving the ability to program microcontrollers through civilizational collapse.
Did I miss any big messes, or neat futures?
Drop me a line:
Feelings come and go, but what matters is what you do with them.
